It is now ten years since he died, and this disc is intended to provide a true homage to and remembrance of the composer from Seville, Manuel Castillo, offering an opportunity to hear a selection of his works for piano, two recorded for the first time (Ofrenda and Para Arthur), along with scores by Turina and Albéniz which provided Castillo with the inspiration and model for the creation of various of his compositions, specifically Turina’s La Andaluza Sentimental, and Navarra, and El Puerto by Albéniz, which can aid the listener in an understanding of the Castillo repertoire presented.

Cristina Lucio-Villegas

Cristina Lucio-Villegas studied in Seville with J. A. Coso and M. Floristán and at the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music with Professor Ana Guijarro, graduating in 2003 with the highest grades and awards (Honour Prize). She continued her studies at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland) with professor Tuija Hakkila (Master’s Degree in 2008), and at the Queen Elisabeth College of Music (Belgium) under the direction of A. R. El Bacha and D. Bashkirov (“Artist Diploma” in 2011) receiving always the highest awards and distinctions. She has recently been awarded with the Special Prize “Rosa Sabater” to the best interpreter of Spanish Music in the 55<sup>th</sup> International Piano Competition “Premio Jaén” (2013), Medal and Special Prize “Instituto Cervantes” in the 54<sup>th</sup> International Music Competition Maria Canals of Barcelona (2008).
